Two boats raced on Wednesday evening.. The wind was light but more than sufficient to give an hour's race. Class 3 and the XODs started together heading in a windward diredtion towards Cutter. The tide was on the ebb and the wind lifted as one approached the shore. X10 looked good at the start but conceded gound to X124 by the first mark. Two beats and a downwind leg later X124 was heading the fleet at the penultimate mark. The wind then lightened for a bit as we raced with a red setting sun to encourage us home. Both boats were kindly towed back to our mooring by Philip Meakin. As night fell we left the pontoon having had the pleasure of an enjoyable benign race so early in the season.' );

A sparking XOD day with a 13-15 knot wind and 3 boats out to contest the race. The wind changed from NW to SW which delayed the start. It was first to the windward mark and although 124 Kathleen was slow to get her spinnaker up it paid to keep the spinnaker shy on the 3rd leg where Kathleen made up alot of ground. There was considerable consternation both in the fleet and on the committee boat when it was realised that Meon (HW Corp) had disappeared, so Retiever was put into fast forward and managed to divert the boats around Royal Southern instead and a good afternoons racing was had by all' );

There was close racing betweem Kathleen and Lark (Nick single handed) for the first part of the race but then Mischief crept up and took the lead despite the serious disadvantage of not having her usual front man. 'Moveable ballast' was given the job and a sorry mess he made of it , dropping sheets over the side , incompetent spinnaker hoists, skying the spinnaker pole 3 times and eventuallly breaking the spinnaker pole!! the final insult was getting the course wrong and missing out the last two marks, sadly taking Xavia with them!!' );

Magic Dragon, Leading Wind and Kathleen diced for 1st place all around the course closely followed by Lark, It and Mischief. An interesting start when the Committee boat looked as though it was trying to Luff X13 on the start line! At last a lovely sparkling day with a 3-4 wind, perfect X sailing. However the wind was from the North east and gave us some huge wind shifts which if missed made or broke the beats! The race was not devoid of incident, Mischief was first around the windward mark but then had a problem getting the spinnaker down on the leuward mark and dropped several places. Kathleen, when in hot persuit of Calypso, went trawling with her spinnaker which brought them to a dead stop and to be overtaken by 3 boats. However it made for close racing with the placings changing on every leg (except Calypso helmed by Keith and crewed by Martin) who led from the 2nd mark.' );

Leading Wind and Mischief joined the fleet so there 6 boats out in a breezy wind and choppy sea. Pepper gave us a good gateboat start and Leading Wind and Kathleen drew away from the rest of the fleet only to have Kathleen go aground off Calshot and Elliot was observed going overboard to get her off - must have been horrible cold! Leading wind drew even futher ahead followed by Mischief who was having some problems with not being fully prepared for racing especially in the robust conditions, as a consequence, some robust language was reported especially as Kathleen and Pepper clawed their way back! At the finish Kathleen pullled up to second followed by Pepper who had an anxious moment when a yachty on port, Pepper on starboard, took no notice of the warning shouts from both Gerry and Mischief and seemed intent on running Pepper down. Last minute evading action by Gerry prevented a mishap with the yachty continuing blithely on his way seemingly unaware of his action or inaction in this case!!' );

Mischief had a good beat to Mark but then missed the eddie on the Calshot shore and tacked out across the tide whilst Leading Wind and Pepper short tacked in the eddie making up a great deal of ground. Saturday's first race was problematical as the wind was very light and then almost disappered. Kathleen went north to try and find more wind which did work but not quite enough to change the result with Leading Wind taking the honours and Mischief second. The wind piped up for the second race and a good tidal decision gave Mischief first place, Leading Wind second and Kathleen third. On Sunday there was more wind and very pleasant sailing with 5 boats out and we had closer and more exciting racing. Young Tom Rogers went particularly well up wind but then did not realise that he had his main sheet caught on the transome which luckily slowed him down on the run! Edward Fitzgerald had to go overboard to push Kathleen off the beach on the way down to Royal Southern which delayed them somewhat!
